The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the 6 principal organs of the United Nations, established in 1945 by the UN Charter. ECOSOC is comprised of 54 member states, elected to serve 3-year terms by the General Assembly (GA). It oversees the economic, social, and environmental aspects of the UN, through work such as promoting the Sustainable Development Goals, delivering humanitarian aid, and maintaining international peace and security. ECOSOC is designed for delegates who want to evaluate economic and social public policy decisions and are willing to compromise and discuss with delegates of other positions, while still remaining true to the core tenants of their country policy. Delegates willing to come in with an open mind and remain diplomatic will succeed in this committee.
